Belgrade is not only delicious food (including vegetarian), bars to discover and beautiful clubs. It is also huge events that nothing have to envy to the big concerts or exhibitions of the rest of Europe. If you want your holiday in the Serbian capital to be even more memorable, match it with the most important events in Belgrade!
In 2015 it will celebrate his 30 years, a rarity among music festivals in general. Founded in 1971 and recently accepted in the European Jazz Network, the festival will see this year many concerts with artists from Europe and US, including the Italian Paolo Fresu, the German Nils Wogra with his band “Nostalgia”, and the Portuguese Trio “Red Jazz”, currently considered the best free jazz group in Europe.
The festival, one of the best events in Belgrade, is usually held every year at the end of October.
FEST, International Film festival
As the official website says: “The first FEST, under the slogan ‘A Brave New World’ was opened on the 9th of January 1971 in Dom Sindikata, with the screening of Robert Altman’s Mash. Envisioned as the annual review of the best films of the season, the Belgrade International Film Festival – FEST – evolved to become one of the most important festivals on the continent and a pillar event of Belgrade’s cultural life and an indispensable element in the coming of age of many generations of film amateurs.”
The festival happens usually between February and March.
BITEF, Belgrade International Theatre Festival
As reported in the website of “La Biennale di Venezia”: “Founded in 1967, Bitef Teatar (Belgrade International Theater Festival) has continually followed and supported the latest theater trends. Growing and developing, it has become one of five most important and biggest European festivals and has, as such, secured itself an unmistakable place at the theater map of the world. It has become one of the most significant culture institutions of our country, but also much more than that. The importance of Bitef surpasses all political and cultural borders. For this reason we can identify the history of Bitef with a history of contemporary theater.”
Organized by Mikser House, here is the most important underground festival in Belgrade, and perhaps of the entire Balkans. The Mikser Festival is extended to the whole Savamala neighborhood, with concerts, DJ sets, exhibitions and debates in the most lively part of the Serbian capital. The activities range from blues concerts to tango, through book festivals and charity catwalks, arriving at drawing marathons and graffiti jams.
For those who turn up their noses thinking too much variety means low quality, we tell you: the Mikser Festival can do it and it does it very well!
The festival usually takes place in early June.
At the end of August Belgrade is submerged by a flood of beer of all kinds and music!
As the official website reports: “Belgrade Beer Fest™ is on average, the biggest beer festival in Southeastern Europe. Within 5 days, over 500.000 people visit the festival. The large number of visitors is mostly due to basic festival principles: free entrance, an exceptional music program, and a wide range of foreign and domestic beer brands. Belgrade Beer Fest™ was founded in year 2003. In twelve years of its existence over 6.7 million visitors could have seen more than 530 music performances, tasted more than 130 beer brands and participated in numerous social campaigns.”
